Teaching Psychology to VWO students

Apply before: March 28th, 2018
Institute: International School of The Hague
Job specification:  We are currently in the process of introducing Psychology as a subject in our secondary school (VWO). This will be taught as part of the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme (DP).

In order to teach in the IBDP, teachers must have a first degree teaching qualification (eerste graads), but we can also support teachers who have a second degree and who would like to continue their studies in order to satisfy the requirements for the first degree.

Psychology is a well-established subject in the IBDP, but it has never been taught at our school before. The IB provides the framework for the course and the assessment requirements, but the new psychology teacher would have to set up the subject in our school; this means working on developing the curriculum and teaching it.

As Psychology will be a new subject, the teaching load will be rather small to start with. This is why we are currently looking for someone who could teach psychology at our school alongside teaching elsewhere, or alongside teaching another subject at our school (e.g. Theory of Knowledge, another humanities subject, English etc.).
