Postdoctoral Research Scientist in Neuroscience

Apply before: January 17th, 2018
Institute: University of Oxford (UK)
Job specification: This is an exciting opportunity for a postdoctoral research scientist to make a substantial contribution to a multi-disciplinary research project led by Dr Huiling Tan. The project is funded by the MRC, and aims to develop and test the efficacy of novel brain machine Interface systems based on subcortical local field potentials recorded from human subjects for the purpose of robotic control and neurofeedback training.

The project will involve collecting behavioural and electrophysiological data (EEG, LFP as well as EMG) from human subjects, analysing the brain signals in real-time to decode relevant information, and then using the information to drive an external actuator. This will also allow us to investigate the neural basis of the process of learning in BMI use in humans.

You will be responsible for adapting existing and developing algorithms and protocols for real-time signal processing; developing software for running and analysing the experiments; preparing scientific reports, journal articles and representing the group at external meetings/conferences. You will be based in the Experimental Neurology Group in the Nuffield Department of Clinical Neurosciences in Oxford, working closely with neuroscientists, engineers, neurologists, neurosurgeons, as well as patients undergoing deep brain stimulation.
